The RSA will introduce a national vocational training scheme to give candidates the opportunity to drive professionally before obtaining their CPC, thereby avoiding a shortage of drivers to the industry.
It is expected that the majority of Driver CPC candidates will obtain their Driver CPC through a combination of vocational training courses and home study. This could lead to opportunities for the driver training industry to develop vocational training courses to assist candidates in reaching the standards required for the Driver CPC.
The vocational training scheme must last for at least 6 months but no more than 3 years and must be provided by an accredited organisation which is acceptable to the RSA.
A Driver CPC candidate would only be allowed to drive within the Republic of Ireland before obtaining the Driver CPC.
